DALLAS — Agway is closed.

Agway, also known as Back Mountain Feed and Seed, on the Memorial Highway in Dallas rang its last sale on Nov. 30. The doors are now locked.

For nearly 14 years, the business provided Back Mountain and neighboring communities a place to buy lawn and garden items, pet products, farm and equine supplies. During the holiday season, the outdoor garden center was transformed into a Christmas tree oasis, featuring a variety of different conifers.

Today, the lot is empty.

In September, the 17,280 square-foot building on 2.02 acres was listed with Scranton-based Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate for an “undisclosed price,” according to the Realtor’s website.

“I am not in a position to comment,” Griff Keefer, the listing agent with Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate, said in an email. “Except to say, the property is for sale or lease; interested parties may contact Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate; the tenant is Back Mountain Feed and Seed.”

Mary Rakowski, manager of Back Mountain Feed and Seed, would not comment on the business or the property listing Thursday.

The property located on heavily-traveled Route 415 is not anticipated to stay vacant for long.

“There is significant interest in the property from other suitors,” Keefer said.

The next closest Agway stores are Miller’s Country Store in Clarks Summit and Nescopeck Agway in Nescopeck, according to the company’s website.
