Jimmy John’s, a national sandwich shop chain, is planning to open a new location in South Abington Twp.
The restaurant, which will occupy approximately 1,840 square feet in the former Landmark Community Bank location at 920 Northern Blvd., is expected to open early next year, said Anthony Baldo, a broker with Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate.
“They’re in the middle of doing their construction and fit out work right now and I believe they are still trying to get open for January,” Baldo said.
Baldo added Hinerfeld is trying to find other tenants for the remaining two vacancies in the plaza — the former Summit Cleaners and Jumbo Seafood restaurant.
Hinerfeld represented the landlord, Lacorte Family Ltd. Partnership, on the transaction. Jimmy John’s signed a five-year lease with options to extend it, Baldo said.
The South Abington Twp. shop will be Jimmy John’s first location in Northeast Pennsylvania. The franchise has 20 shops throughout the state, including Altoona and State College.
South Abington Twp. Manager David O’Neill is pleased to see another restaurant show interest in the area on the heels of Chipotle Mexican Grill’s plans to open on the same road in the former Wendy’s location.
“We welcome a new business all the time and look forward to seeing it open,” O’Neill said. “It’s the place to be. A lot of businesses are doing very well on that stretch.”
