1880:The building on the far left is 602 Lackawanna Avenue – the original location of the Clark & Snover tobacco company; this photo, taken in 1880, even shows the cigar store Indian on the roof. Goodhand Clark started making cigars as the location in 1873; he partnered with Thaniel Snover in 1875. The firm specialized in the “fine Kentucky smoking and chewing tobacco.” which it sold on Lackawanna Avenue until 1892, when the firm incorporated and moved to a new store at 112-122 Adams Avenue. Clark & Snover Closed in 1926.
2016: The Scranton Bedding Co. took over the space vacated by Clark & Snover in 1894. It made matresses, bed springs and pillows there unitl 1906, when the building was razed by the DL&W Railroad to make way for it’s new passenger train station. A new building was erected on the corner to complement the staion; it housed the Railway Express Co., a railroad freight company, until 1930. The building hosted Tony Harding’s Restaurant from 1940 until 1979. Today, the space houses a variety is offices, including Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate and Hazzouri Dental.
