A growing mental health provider with offices in Kingston and Dunmore will consolidate into a new facility in Moosic, having purchased a building on Montage Mountain Road for $1.4 million.
The psychiatric practice of Matthew Berger, M.D., and Danilo DeSoto, M.D., plans to invest another $800,000 into the former State Farm Insurance building to remodel and expand the existing 15,000-square-foot, one-story structure.
The practice, which includes 15 clinicians and 40 other workers, will move into the building in the fall, after initial renovations. Easy to find and easy to get to, the building was a good choice for the practice, Dr. Berger said.
He said he wanted to consolidate the offices in a central location that could serve patients from a wide area.
After the expansion, he expects to have 8,000 square feet available for rent, ideally to other doctors or other professional offices.
The listing agent for the property, Michael Detter, of Hinerfeld Commercial Realty in Scranton, said in the 16 months the building was on the market, it attracted attention as a potential restaurant or retail site, given the traffic on Montage Mountain Road and its proximity to PNC Field, new home to the New York Yankees Triple-A baseball team.
Dr. Berger said he anticipates the practice will continue to grow. In addition to a full-time staff that includes psychologists, counselors, a dietitian, and an art therapist, the group will add David Liskov, M.D.
Insurance company State Farm had used the building, which has vehicle bays, to process automobile claims. A company restructuring in 2005 consolidated facilities and the Moosic site closed.
